Represent Yourself
In addition to our usual litigation services, we also assist clients in representing themselves in court. Through these services we can assist those clients whose claims or lawsuits are important to them, but which do not involve enough financial value or risk to justify retaining us "full time". When providing these "coaching" services, we do not contact the other side or make court appearances. Instead, we coach our clients to do these things, stepping in only to draft important documents for our clients' use when asked and only for our clients' signatures. We charge discounted rates for our time in these cases, but more importantly we are not required to spend as much time on each file, which means lower legal bills for our clients.
Here is an example of how Do it Yourself (DIY) legal services might work for a small business:
Our client, "Bob" had a dispute with a vendor over the purchase of a $10,000 grill for his restaurant. The grill was badly damaged and useless when it arrived and Bob, as company president, refused to pay until it was repaired or replaced. But instead of working out a deal with Bob, the vendor sued him personally, even though it was Bob's company that had bought the grill, not Bob as an individual.
We prepared a proper answer to the complaint, and provided Bob with easy to follow instructions regarding how to file it with the court and mail it to the vendor's lawyer. Then we continued to guide him through the steps of defending himself. After three months and payment of only $700 in legal fees, Bob settled his case, got the grill repaired, and received a discount on the purchase price from the vendor.*
If you are being sued, start defending yourself now with a professionally prepared response to the lawsuit and a proper demand to see the other side's evidence for as little as $250 in fees.
*Results will vary. All cases are unique and this example is not an indication of the likelihood of success of your case. This fictionalized example is for informational purposes only and "Bob" is a composite character made up of several other clients.
